1993-1997
These early paintings were often abstractions from sketches I made in derelict old industrial properties. I spent weeks in some of them, old warehouses or factories, just capturing how the light refracted through broken pains of glass in shattered windows or how light travelled through dust motes and debris to light a hidden corner or such like.
My favourite was Mumford Mill in Deptford. Now it’s luxury apartments but the time I spent there my companions were snuffling rats and noisy pigeons.
