2004
This work was influenced by a visit I made to Ground Zero New York in 2003. Being present at the scene of the destruction of the Twin Towers had an enormous emotional impact on me. But, the strongest image that stayed with me, that I carried home, was not the void where the World Trade Centre had stood but a building on the edge of the site shrouded in black netting that temporarily became known as The Black Widow. The Deutsche Bank, looked like a huge symbolic gravestone to the thousands that died in the WTC.
I have produced a series of paintings of the building draped in black that to me stood defiant despite the damage it sustained that September day.
